Spicer Family Takes the Stage in The Music Man — And You’re Invited!

One of the greatest joys in my life is sharing the magic of theatre with my family. Over the past few months, we’ve had the absolute blast of diving headfirst into The Music Man, and I can’t wait to tell you a bit about the experience — and invite you to come see the show!

This production has been an amazing adventure. Not only have I had the chance to meet some incredible people and work under the guidance of wonderfully talented directors, but I’ve also had the pleasure (and hilarious challenge) of stepping into the pompous, blustering shoes of Mayor Shinn. Whether I’m nailing the comedy or just naturally pompous remains to be seen — but either way, it’s been a riot to play.

One of the most touching moments for me has been watching my son Everett shine as Winthrop. Now, I’ll admit I’m a little biased, but he’s truly something special in this role. He’s captured Winthrop’s sweetness and shy charm in a way that makes my heart swell every time he steps on stage. (Quick note for those planning their visits — Everett won’t be in the Thursday, May 8 performance, as that’s the understudy show.)

What amazes me is how polished this production already feels. We’ve actually run the entire show a few times now, and with a couple of weeks left before opening, it’s only going to get better. The cast is packed with talented performers, and the energy and heart everyone’s bringing to the stage is electric.

Even better — this is truly a family affair for us.
🎭 I’m strutting around as Mayor Shinn
🎭 Everett’s our wonderful Winthrop
🎭 Emily, my wife, brings sass and sparkle as one of the fabulous Pick-a-Little Ladies
🎭 Danika, our youngest, adds her charm to the kid ensemble

It’s a show filled with grand dance numbers, toe-tapping songs, humor, heart, and just the right touch of romance. This is a lively, family-friendly take on a classic Golden Era musical that celebrates community, connection, and the joyful chaos that sometimes comes when a fast-talking salesman rolls into town.

If you’re in the Cambridge area during the first two weeks of May, I’d love for you to come see what we’ve been working on. It’s a fun, feel-good night out at the theatre — and a chance to cheer on the whole Spicer crew in action.

Hope to see you there — and if you do come, be sure to say hello after the show!
